As medical historians with close relationships to the medical community, we know how important it is to take this pandemic seriously, and we are committed to doing everything we can to keep all of us safe while setting a good example for the community.

Operations onsite may be temporarily halted again in part or whole based on current conditions.

The following rules and procedures may change, so check back before your appointment to learn what to expect during your visit.

  1. In addition to routine cleaning of the building, we have implemented additional cleaning protocols in response to COVID-19. Restrooms, high touch surfaces, and high traffic areas will be cleaned and disinfected regularly throughout the day. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building.
  2. Until further notice, tours of the Indiana Medical History Museum will be available by appointment only. Appointments for tours will be arranged on a case by case basis depending on the activity level in the building on a given day and the availability of volunteer docents.
  3. To request an appointment click on the Request A Tour button and select a day/time. Note: The payment window closes after 15 minutes. After that time, the invoice is voided. Request the tour again when ready to make payment.
  4. If you are feeling ill, please do not visit the museum.

  5. All individuals who visit the Indiana Medical History Museum are expected to follow all of the required precautions during their entire visit, and may be refused service if they fail to do so.

    •  Members of a household who visit together do not have to maintain 6 feet distance between one another, but they must maintain a distance of 6 feet between themselves and other visitors, Museum staff, and Museum docents at all times. It may be necessary to leave some rooms off of the tour, or only allow visitors to peek in, if maintaining this distance within the room is impossible.

    • Visitors are encouraged to sanitize their hands upon entering the Museum. They will be encouraged to do so again before leaving.
Visitors are required to wear a mask over their nose and mouth before entering any indoor facility at the site and keep it on as long as they are inside the building.  If supplies allow, disposable surgical masks are available for purchase by visitors that do not have them. Children under the age of 2 are not required to wear masks. There are no other exceptions to this mask requirement.
    • Visitors are not required to wear a mask while outside on the IMHM grounds as long as social distancing is being practiced.
  6. Indoor facility rentals will not resume until further notice.
  7. Outdoor rentals will be considered on a case by case basis, but renters must ensure that all applicable policies will be followed and are responsible for implementing and enforcing them. This includes the check-in process, use of masks when distancing cannot be achieved, and use of hand sanitizer, etc. Renters will be responsible for providing appropriate PPE to their guests unless arrangements for purchase are made with Museum administration in advance. No part of the buildings’ interiors will be accessible by guests during an outdoor rental, so the renter is responsible for providing portable toilets and hand washing stations.
