Milk Sickness in the Pioneer Midwest
Walter Daly, MD former Dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine will discuss the origins and significance of the "milk sickness" in Indiana's early pioneer history. This is a joint program between the Indiana Historical Society and Indiana Medical History Museum and is sponsored by The Straatford at West Clay.

This program is held at the Indiana History Center, Cole Porter Room, 450 W. Ohio Street. Admission is free.

John Shaw Billings History of Medicine Society
meeting at the museum "The Indiana Hospital for the Insane: Varying Perspectives of Moral Treatment Landscape" by Kathryn Wilmot will be presented. This paper won the 2007 Medical Humanities Essay Award, a contest sponsored by the Center for Law and Health and the John Shaw Billings Society. Refreshments at 3:30.

Wizard's Academy
Science activities for elementary and middle school children inspired by the Harry Potter book series. The Animal Outreach Program of the Indianapolis Zoo will show animals found in the books. Visitors may visit the Medicinal Garden to see examples of plants used in wizard legends. Come dressed for the occasion.

Forensic Series, Fall Program
The Role of Forensic Science (CSI) in the Community: Firearm and Toolmark Examinations in Forensic Cases

James Hamby, PhD, will present information about how cases are solved using procedures to identify firearms and tools used in crimes.

Annual Member's Meeting
Will have a focus on early Indiana physicians. There will be a short talk, "Finding Isaac Coe, M.D." Meredith McGovern, Indiana State Museum, will present her methods of researching the life of one of Indianapolis's first physicians and her findings. Following, Dr. Campbell of Conner Prairie will discuss the work of a pioneer physician. Dr.Campbell is portrayed by Eddie Grogan.
